Won't wool be too hot for summer workouts and hot yoga?

This is the most common misconception about merino and it's completely understandable. The word "wool" triggers visions of a winter jumper. But merino is a temperature-regulating fibre, not an insulating one. It works bi-directionally: warming you when you're cold, and actively releasing heat when you're warm. Polyester traps heat against your skin. Merino breathes with your body. Our customers specifically choose these for hot yoga and Australia's summer climate and consistently report they outperform every synthetic short they've worn before.

Is it really soft? I've had itchy wool before

That itchy experience was almost certainly traditional or coarse wool, not merino. Our shorts are made from 19 micron extra-fine merino, which is softer than cotton. The fibre is so fine it bends against your skin rather than prickling it. Traditional wool starts at 25+ microns, that's a completely different material and a completely different experience. Most customers who were most sceptical about softness become the most loyal converts.

Are these actually toxin-free, or is "zero plastic" just a marketing claim?

You're right to ask, the activewear industry is full of greenwashing and this scepticism is healthy. Our answer is independently verified: our shorts are OEKO-TEX certified, the gold-standard third-party certification confirming the product is free from harmful substances. Beyond certification, the construction itself is the proof — 100% pure merino wool throughout. No synthetic fibres. No plastic. No PFAS. No chemical coatings of any kind. Not a marketing claim. How do I justify the price?

You're not comparing like for like. A $60 polyester short that you wash after every wear, replace every 12 months, and that contains PFAS is not the same product. Our shorts are OEKO-TEX certified, 100% pure merino wool, last 2+ years with proper care, and are worn 2–3 times between washes thanks to merino's natural odour resistance. If you wear these 3 times a week over 2 years, the cost-per-wear drops below $0.35. You're already spending the money. Spend it on something clean.

My synthetic shorts smell after one wear. Will these be the same?

This is actually where merino most dramatically outperforms synthetics. Synthetic fabrics trap odour-causing bacteria in their structure — and once embedded, regular washing doesn't fully remove them. That's why your polyester shorts can come out of the wash still smelling. Merino's natural fibre structure actively resists bacteria and neutralises odour molecules at a structural level. Our customers routinely wear these 2–3 times between washes without any odour. That's not a compromise — it's a genuinely better product.

Will they shrink or pill in the wash?

Both risks are real with pure merino and both are entirely manageable with correct care. For shrinking: machine wash cold, gentle cycle, lay flat to dry. Follow those three steps and shrinkage is a non-issue. For pilling: washing cold on a gentle cycle minimises the friction that causes it. Avoid the dryer entirely. Treated correctly, these will outlast multiple pairs of synthetic shorts in both performance and structure. If minor pilling does occur on high-friction areas over time, a fabric shaver restores them instantly.

I have sensitive skin and react to most activewear. Will these be different?

Most sensitive skin reactions to activewear are triggered by synthetic chemical coatings and microplastic fibres — not natural fabric. Our shorts are 100% pure merino wool with OEKO-TEX certification confirming zero harmful substances. At 19 microns, the fibre is fine enough that it is unlikely to trigger sensitivity even in people who have reacted to traditional wool. Do the sizes run small? I'm between sizes.

Yes and we'd rather be upfront about it than have you order the wrong size. Sizing running small is a consistent pattern across merino activewear brands and ours follows the same trend. If you're between sizes, size up. Pure merino has natural give, but a slightly roomier fit will be more comfortable and move better during practice. We recommend fitting by waist and hip measurement rather than standard sizing letter for the most accurate result.
