The Problem

Every rep in synthetic underwear is heat, chafe, and bacteria locked against your skin.

Most guys never think about what's touching them while they train. They just train.

Synthetic "performance" underwear traps sweat instead of moving it and that's why brands engineer vented mesh pouches to work around a fabric that runs hot by design. Mesh cutouts on a $40 pair of underwear are an admission the base fabric doesn't work. And "natural" merino competitors aren't clean either: Icebreaker blends in 12% nylon and 5% elastane. Wool&Prince runs 22% nylon.

It's not you. It's the fibre. You optimise your training but your underwear is still working against you.

The Difference

Six ways nature outperforms plastic when you train

✔️ Zero PFAS. Zero BPA. Zero microplastics.

The merino wool contains no plastic — by construction, not a certification claim. No mesh panels working around a fabric that runs hot. No nylon, no spandex, nothing to shed.

✔️ 5 sessions. Zero washes. Still fresh.

Merino's keratin structure prevents bacterial colonisation at the fibre level. It doesn't wash out. Your synthetic pair has a permanent bacterial colony by month three. This one doesn't.

✔️ 30% moisture absorption before you feel wet.

Merino absorbs up to 30% of its weight in moisture while the outer surface stays hydrophobic. No clammy feeling. No chemical wicking treatment required.

✔️ Cool in summer. Warm in winter. No chemistry required.

The crimped fibre structure traps air for insulation while releasing heat when your body temperature rises. The same tee that keeps you warm on a cold morning manages heat on a summer trail.

✔️ 17.5 microns. Zero itch.

Itch comes from coarse fibres above 25 microns that poke the skin rather than bend. At 17.5 microns — finer than cashmere — the fibre bends on contact. Most runners who've written off merino tried 25+ micron wool. Different product.

✔️ The only boxer brief that biodegrades.

When this pair reaches end of life, it returns to the earth. Your synthetic pair will still be shedding microplastics in 2150. That's not sustainability. That's debt.

For the Runner Who Optimizes Everything

You track your macros. You question your supplements. Your underwear is the one thing you haven't fixed.

The health-optimised athlete eliminates every variable working against performance. He reads labels. He knows synthetic "performance" gear traps heat and bacteria against the most sensitive skin on his body and that most "natural" alternatives are still a quarter plastic.

Zero Plastic Performance boxer briefs exist for the athlete who's already made every other clean choice. This is the one he forgot.

The Comparison

100% merino isn't a marketing claim. It's a material difference.

Icebreaker blends in 12% nylon + 5% elastane. Wool&Prince runs 22% nylon. "Merino" in the name doesn't mean plastic-free. Check the label.

Common Questions

Straight Answers

I sweat heavily. Won't wool just get soaked?

Merino absorbs sweat as vapor before it becomes liquid so you stay drier for longer than in polyester, which does nothing until you're already wet. In a truly drenching session, everything gets wet; the difference is merino stays comfortable and stink-free while wet, instead of clinging and chafing.

Will hard training wear holes in them?

Friction is merino's real enemy, so we built for it: a lightweight but dense knit, flatlock seams, and reinforcement in the high-wear zones and a warranty behind it. If training kills a pair, we replace it.

If merino's so good, why don't pro athletes wear it?

Some do — merino base layers are standard in hunting, endurance hiking, and increasingly running (there are merino-first running brands now). Synthetics dominate mostly because they're cheap to sponsor at scale, not because they're better next to skin.

Why is it $45 a pair?

Because it's made of the expensive stuff, undiluted. Polyester is spun from oil for cents, that's why cheap underwear is cheap. This is 100% fine Australian merino, one of the most premium fibres in the world, and unlike most "merino" underwear we don't cut it with 20% plastic to save money. It also outlasts cheap pairs where it matters: it never develops that permanent synthetic stink, doesn't stretch out and sag, and needs fewer washes which is what actually ages underwear. Five of these replace fifteen throwaway pairs. Per wear, this is the cheap option.

Isn't wool itchy?

That's sweater wool. Ours is fine merino, around 17.5 microns, finer than a human hair. It feels closer to your softest t-shirt than anything your grandad wore. If you disagree after wearing it, our guarantee covers you.

Wool in summer? Really?

Yes — that's the trick. Merino moves sweat away as vapor before you feel wet, and it insulates in the cold. That's why hikers wear it year-round. Cool in summer, warm in winter, one pair does both.

How is it stretchy without plastic?

The stretch comes from the knit itself. Where any elastic is needed (like the waistband), it's fully covered — so plastic never touches your skin. Full composition is on every product page. Read the tag; that's the point.

Can I machine wash them?

Yes. Cold wash, hang dry (they dry overnight). No special treatment, no dry cleaning, nothing precious.

Do I have to wear them for days without washing?

No — you just can. Merino naturally resists odor bacteria, so a pair stays fresh far longer than cotton or polyester. Handy for travel. At home, wash them whenever you like.
