From the rugby field to the gym floor

Growing up in Australia, I was always in sport. Rugby on weekends, basketball through the week, the kind of upbringing where being active wasn't a habit, it was just life.

 

As I got older, that energy shifted into the gym. Boxing. Weight training. And somewhere along the way, a genuine obsession with health. I got serious about nutrition, the kind of serious where chicken and rice becomes a personality trait. I was reading labels on everything. Tracking everything. Optimising everything.

I thought I had it figured out.

 

Then one afternoon I was reading about microplastics and everything I thought I knew got a lot more complicated.

The moment everything changed

They were in the toothbrush. The chopping board. The shirt on my back.

It started as a passing article. Microplastics in tap water. Then another, microplastics in seafood. Then the toothbrush I'd been using for years. The chopping board in my kitchen. The air inside my apartment.

 

And then it hit me. I was wearing a synthetic running shirt for an hour a day, sweating, pores wide open, pressed directly against a material made from plastic. And I hadn't thought about it once.

 

The research that followed made it impossible to ignore. Exercise increases skin permeability, your pores dilate, blood rushes to the surface to cool you, and anything in contact with your skin has a direct pathway in. Independent testing had already found PFAS"forever chemicals" in one in four major athletic brand garments. Synthetic fabrics shed hundreds of thousands of microplastic fibres with every single wash.

I looked for a solution. Something genuinely natural not "eco-friendly" marketing, not a synthetic blend with a green logo. A shirt made from actual natural fibre, certified clean, with third-party proof. I couldn't find one that ticked every box. So I built it.

 

Zero Plastic Performance launched from Sydney five years ago with a single commitment: no synthetic fibres, no PFAS, no microplastics, ever. Not as a compromise. As a standard.
